Νικόλαος Μαυροκορδάτος (Νικόλαος Μαυροκορδάτος· γεννήθηκε στην Κωνσταντινούπολη στις 3 Μαΐου 1670· πέθανε στις 3 Σεπτεμβρίου 1730)· Φαναριώτης λόγιος· ηγεμόνας της Μολδοβλαχίας· μέγας διερμηνέας της Πύλης· γιος του Αλέξανδρου Μαυροκορδάτου του εξ Απορρήτων· διαδέχθηκε τον πατέρα του ως μέγας δραγουμάνος· το 1709 διορίστηκε ηγεμόνας της Μολδαβίας· εκτός από τις ηγετικές και διοικητικές του ικανότητες επέδειξε και μια ιδιαίτερη έφεση στα γράμματα· το 1719 δημοσίευσε το «Περί των καθηκόντων» και στη συνέχεια το «Ψόγος Νικοτιανής»· μετά το θάνατο του, το 1800, δημοσιεύτηκε από τον Γρηγόριο Κωνσταντά το «Φιλοθέου πάρεργα», το οποίο είναι γραμμένο σε αρχαιοελληνική γλώσσα και θεωρείται το πρώτο ελληνικό μυθιστόρημα των νεότερων χρόνων)
