Γαλάνης· αν και γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα το 1882 ο πατέρας του, ο φιλόλογος Εμμανουήλ Γαλάνης που καταγόταν από την Κύμη, τον έγραψε στα μητρώα του Δήμου Κύμης με έτος γεννήσεως το 1879· πέθανε στο Παρίσι στις 20 Μαρτίου 1966· Έλληνας χαράκτης, από τους πρωτοπόρους στο είδος του στον ελληνικό καλλιτεχνικό κόσμο· ασχολήθηκε επίσης εκτενώς με τη γελοιογραφία και τη ζωγραφική· σπούδασε πολιτικός μηχανικός στο Πολυτεχνείο της Αθήνας· το 1900 πήγε στη Γαλλία για να σπουδάσει στη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών του Παρισιού· από 1907–1909 έζησε στη Γερμανία, όπου εργάσθηκε ως γελοιογράφος για τα γερμανικά περιοδικά Simplicissimus και Lustige Blätter· επέστρεψε στο Παρίσι και στράφηκε αρχικά στην ξυλογραφία και στην οξυγραφία και κατόπιν προς τη χαρακτ
