σελίδα τίτλου (Δημήτριος Βικέλας), σελίδα 17 (γεννήθηκε στην Ερμούπολη της Σύρου το 1835· γόνος οικογένειας εμπόρων· σε ηλικία 17 ετών πήγε στο Λονδίνο για να εργαστεί στην επιχείρηση των θείων του και να σπουδάσει στο Πανεπιστημιακό Κολλέγιο· αργότερα έγινε συνέταιρός τους· στράφηκε και στη λογοτεχνία ενώ παράλληλα ανέπτυξε πλούσια εθνική δράση· το 1872 εγκαταστάθηκε στο Παρίσι· ώς αντιπρόεδρος του Πανελληνίου Γυμναστικού Συλλόγου στο Διεθνές Αθλητικό Συνέδριο για την αναβίωση των Ολυμπιακών Αγώνων πέτυχε να γίνουν οι πρώτοι Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες στην Αθήνα το 1896· τέσσερα χρόνια αργότερα εγκαταστάθηκε οριστικά στην Αθήνα), σελίδα 18 (ίδρυσε τον Σύλλογον προς Διάδοσιν Ωφελίμων Βιβλίων, το Σχολικόν Μουσείον, τον Οίκον των Τυφλών, την Σχολικήν Βιβλιοθήκην, την Σεβαστοπούλειον Εργατικήν Σχολήν
